Info: Initial development planned as the next installment of the Descent series after Descent 3, with a "working title" of Descent 4; development shifted away from the Descent series and, with the acquisition of Volition by publisher THQ, was recast as Red Faction; shares some very broad similarities with the Descent series. On 17 April 2000, Volition's Descent 4 website was renamed 'FPS' and the first of several teaser images was posted.
At the same time, some of the Volition developers began posting on the DescentBB. Few specifics were forthcoming, leading to much speculation about the Descent 4 / FPS game. At E3 on 11 May 2000, the FPS was announced as Red Faction.
