Pictorial and Dimensional Comparison

Via Eric Bond

This pictorial is for purposes of comparing similarities and differences among designs. By no means should this be used to draw unsubstantiated conclusions, for example, Aircraft A is a copy of Aircraft B, or Aircraft X is better than Aircraft Y.

Front-view comparison

Front view comparison. Similarities include cylindrical fuselage, canopy, landing gear, and small nose-mounted propellor. Most obvious differences are the T-tail and the wing; the wing is mid-mounted on both aircraft, but the I-270's has slight dihedral.
Height:

  • Ju 248: 10 ft 4.75 in (3.17 m).
  • I-270: 10 ft 1.25 in (3.08 m).

Side-view Comparison

Side-view comparison. Here the differences are more apparent. The fuselage of the I-270 is clearly more refined and lengthened compared to the Ju 248; wings and the T-tail also are clearly unrelated. Similarities are still obvious though: note the very similar landing gear, the cockpit canopies (the I-270's is lengthened but still similar), the rocket exhausts and the placement of the antenna. Note that the drawings are not to the same scale.
Length:

  • Ju 248: 25 ft 8.25 in (7.83 m).
  • I-270: 29 ft 3 in (8.91 m).

Plan-view comparison

Plan-view comparison. Differences are obvious here as well, especially in the wing planform; the Ju 248 clearly reveals its parentage in the Me 163.
