First of all, talking about technical and historical informations concerning the italian production of the period 43-45 could be very difficult and confusing. In normal periods, the builder had to provide for each aircraft type a specifical Technical Workshop Book, appointed and accepted by the R.A. and by the Italian Air Force Departement. The above mentioned document was delivered to the Technical Services of each Unit. In such a situation it's to easy to obtain the official informations concerning all technical aspects. Unfortunately, concerning aircrafts as RE. 2005, the Technical Workshop Book was never produced (or at least I ignore its existence). So the only technical informations I got are those linked to the preliminary design and to the official tests (factory + R.A.). DESIGNERS: the official designers were Ing. Alessio and Ing. Longhi team leaders. Anyway the true father of Sagittario has been Ing. Giuseppe Maraschini that prepared the PRELIMINARY DESIGN (n. A05/0901 dated December 11th 1941). Other members of the team where Ing. Bonomi and Ing. Navarra (Ing. Pozzi and Ing. Toniolo already known by you). The team was composed also by Technical Leaders (in italian Capo Tecnico; a specialist that was not ranked in a University while an Ingegnere is ranked by a University). I know the following T.L. : Vardenaga, Giovagnoli, Costa, Zocchi and Ballabeni. WEIGHTS: what do you mean with LOADED and GROSS ? PERFORMANCE : MAX SPEED at M. HISTORY: DESIGN: A05/0901 dated Dec. 11th 1941 ROLL-OUT : what do you mean? FIRST FLIGHT: Apr. 30rd 1942 is the very first flight of MM 494. This first test flight ended with a minor accident (with some damages to the landing gear). In order to avoid that the Sagittario's carieer begin in such a negative way the Reggiane top management decided to state as official first flight date the date that you know (May 9th). It could look silly such an attitude but you must remember the very difficult relationship between reggiane and Air Force Department. PRODUCTION INITIATED: March 1943 SERVICE ENTRY : March 1943 OPERATIONAL UNITS: I'm searching in my files more about the 3 or 6 Sagittarios of A.N.R. (Aviazione Nazionale Repubblicana) and about the Luftwaffe's ones. By the way, I did not know that one was given to Romania. Have you more informations about it? DISPOSITIONS: as above NUMBER BUILT: as above. The total production should be of 36 units VERSIONS, PROTOTYPES AND STUDIES Next time I'll add some informations about: RE. 2005 "Luftwaffe" RE. 2005 wooden structure RE. 2005 "Twin Sagittario" RE. 2005 "R" SOURCES: Arena, Nino.
