When it was set up, the SOCIÉTÉ NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS first pursued the technical and industrial work of the SOCIÉTÉ DES MOTEURS ET AUTOMOBILES LORRAINE, in which it took the place of a series of important works and technical studies undertaken by its predecessor.

In this vein, it has continued to develop air-cooled and water-cooled aviation engines in a very wide power range.

Among these productions, three engines are to be remembered because they address to the airplanes whose military and civil use proves more and more necessary and which were the object, of the part of the users, of important orders.

These engines are:

• LORRAINE <<STERNA>> type 111, 900 HP water-cooled engine;
• LORRAINE <<ALGOL>> type 120, 500 CV air-cooled engine;
• LORRAINE <<SIRIUS>> type 112, 1.000 CV air-cooled engine.

In addition to the development of these engines and their development, the Research and Testing Services of the SOCIÉTÉ NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS made a large contribution to the implementation of new processes, processes that allowed a significant improvement in performance.

These engines in turn complete the range of LORRAINE engines in service in the French Air Formations, such as the PETREL 720 HP engines that equip the multi-place bombing airplanes, and the ALGOL 400 HP engines that have allowed the trimotors of the State Board AIR AFRICA the harsh airline operation of this Company.
