Indigenous Military Aircraft Designations 1952 - Present |
Japanese Self-Defense Force aircraft designations are similar to those of the USA, consisting of a type letter and sequence number, with an optional modified mission prefix. Only indigenously-designed and/or -built aircraft receive an official designation; imported aircraft use either the original American designation or are derived from the manufacturer's model number.
